The church I attend has been undergoing a huge expansion and remodel in theme with traditional Eastern Orthodox/Russian architecture and the task came to me to make a 11-foot wide dome structure that will support drywall and eventually get gold leaf and iconography. These sort of things are expected to last centuries so it was built accordingly out of 24 ribs of 2-1/4" thick plywood arranged on a notched rim and put together like a puzzle.
